The girl had no legal access to abortion in Pennsylvania, where her parents must consent. This is the direct consequence of anti-choice zealots: taking away what dignity, respect, and alternatives left were left to a 13 year old who is being controlled, manipulated, and raped by someone more than twice her age. Way to go “pro-lifers”, what an awesome accomplishment: empowering rapists like Michael Lisk over 13 year old girls, leading her to desperately jab herself with a pencil.

Your friend’s “logic” is so full of idiocy I don’t know where to start.
1) Tell your friend to look up what “endangered species” means.
2) Tell your friend that lawmakers should keep their hands off womens uteruses. It would be ridiculous for lawmakers to place a higher value on a blastocyst than on the life of a woman. Even more if the woman would die because she cannot bring the pregnancy to term or because she has been raped.
3) If abortions need to be criminalized, what should be the punishment on women who have an abortion? A fine similar to the one a person would get for destroying turtle eggs? Would that be it? It goes without saying that the comparison is not only ludicrous but really stupid.

I agree with most of what you are saying but i think that religion is a good way to teach morals and that finding inconsistencies doesn’t really make a difference as should be used as a guide for your life but not has a set of rules to strictly adhere to.

I disagree. Humanity has progressed immensely since the day men from bonze age tribes in the middle east invented what is now known as the god of the 3 mayor monotheistic religions in the world.
Why do we have to depend on lies (this is good because god said so), fear ( behave or go to hell), bribery ( behave and go to heaven) guilt and emotional blackmail ( It is your fault Jesus died you wretched piece of crap) to promote good behavior? Can you see the inherent contradiction? No wonder jails are full of believers of all stripes.
Fact of the matter is that biblical guides to morality and conduct are not only antiquated but on many ocassions dangerous ( why be kind to gays if god will burn them in hell anyway? If abortion is murder per god, why not take out abortion doctors in order to save the babies?). Would you use 13th century medical knowledge to treat diseases? (bloodletting anyone?) Of course not. Why then depend on bronze age moral precepts that are anything but?
I see no reason to halt moral progress in the name of a non warranted respect for religion. Neither should anyone else if we want a better, more caring and sustainable future.
